Flat Skin Barriers, also known as flanges, wafers, or stoma wafers, adhere to the peristomal skin (skin around the stoma) and serve as a point for attachment of the ostomy pouch. Ostomy Ski Barriers also act as a defense against skin complications that are caused by contact with the output from the stoma. In a One-Piece Ostomy System, skin barriers are combined with the pouch. In a Two-Piece Ostomy System, the skin barrier and pouch can be separated.
