Lift overview and weight capacity

  • Type: portable hydraulic (manual pump) patient lift with an adjustable, opening base.
  • Weight capacity: 450 lbs (per the manual).
  • Main parts: base with shifter handle, mast, boom, hydraulic pump, pump handle and control valve.
  • Slings: Invacare says to use Invacare slings with Invacare lifts and not to mix slings and lifts from different makers. Use the sling your doctor, nurse or therapist recommends.

Raising and lowering the lift

  • To raise: close the control valve (turn it toward the pump handle), then pump the handle up and down.
  • To lower: open the control valve (turn it away from the pump handle). The farther you open it, the faster it lowers, but a built-in safety gate keeps the descent slow.
  • Before lifting, open the base legs to the widest locked position.

Quick troubleshooting

The boom won't go up when I pump the handle

Make sure the control valve is fully closed (turned toward the pump handle). If it is closed and the boom still won't rise, stop using the lift and contact your dealer or Invacare.

The boom drifts down or lowers on its own

Check that the control valve is fully closed. If it keeps drifting, stop using the lift. The pump is sealed at the factory: do not open it yourself, because that voids the warranty.

The lift feels unstable or hard to move

Open the base legs to the widest locked position before lifting. Lower the patient so their feet are over the base before moving, and do not roll the base over objects or uneven floors.

The sling looks worn or the straps don't sit evenly

Inspect slings after every wash. Throw out any that are bleached, torn, cut or frayed. Check that every strap or chain is hooked before lifting the patient off the bed, and use the same loop color on each side.

Invacare recommends checking the mast pivot bolt at least every six months, along with regular maintenance. See the safety inspection checklist in the PDF.
