Alternating Pressure Mattresses help prevent pressure sores and treat existing bed sores through the relief of pressure contact points against the body by filling and un-filling air cells within the mattress. This gradual pressure distribution is not noticeable to the user, but drastically relieves the existence of pressure points.

 

Most of the entry level mattresses have set treatment times and generally cycle every 10 minutes. The more advanced systems feature either compressor or blower units that allow for multiple  treatment time options.  These can be 5, 10, 15 or 20 minute cycles.
