Quick summary
- The Joey is a portable pump for continuous or intermittent feeding, with automatic flushing when used with Joey feed-and-flush sets.
- It runs on A/C power or its built-in rechargeable battery; it can be mounted with the included pole clamp or set on a flat surface.
- Status light: green = normal; yellow = hold, low battery or a medium-priority alarm; red = high-priority alarm (System Error, Pump Set Dislodged, Rotor Error).
- NewLeaf no longer sells the Joey pump itself, but we carry Joey feeding sets (below).
Kangaroo Joey alarms & error screens
| Screen / alarm | What it means | What to try (per the manufacturer manual) |
|---|---|---|
| System Error (high priority) | General error; an error number is shown. | Power off and on to try to clear it. If it can't be resolved, power off and use a different pump; note the error number for Cardinal Health customer service. |
| Hold Error | Pump left on HOLD with no input for more than 10 minutes. | Press CONTINUE to return to the previous screen and resume or schedule the feed. |
| Rotor Error (high priority) | The set tubing no longer has enough tension on the rotor. | Check the set isn't damaged and re-load the tubing around the rotor; press CONTINUE. If unresolved, use a different pump. |
| Feed Error | Formula not being delivered: bag empty, clog between bag and pump, or heavy foam/bubbles. | Refill the bag; clear bubbles and reload the set or use a new set; find and clear the clog; prime and press CONTINUE. If unresolved, use a different pump. |
| Flush Error | Flush not being delivered: flush bag empty or clog between flush bag and pump. | Refill the flush bag; clear bubbles/clog or load a new set; prime and press CONTINUE. If unresolved, use a different pump. |
| Flow Error | Clog between the pump and the patient. | Find and clear the blockage; clean and dry the valve pocket (dampness/dirt can cause false errors); load a new set, prime, CONTINUE. If unresolved, use a different pump. |
| Pump Set Dislodged (high priority) | The black ring retainer (MISTIC) isn't seated in its pocket. | Re-seat the retainer; if needed load a new set, prime, CONTINUE. If unresolved, use a different pump. |
| Battery Low | About 30 minutes of battery left; alarm beeps continuously. | Plug in the A/C adapter (6 hours for a full recharge). If it appears while plugged in, push the plug fully in. |
| Set Use > 24 Hours (info) | Icon blinks when a set has run 24+ hours. | Informational — the manufacturer recommends replacing the set after 24 hours of use. |
| Feeding Complete (info) | Programmed feed finished. | Power down, or press CONTINUE to return to the set-loaded menu. |
